The chair(Short story)

For those reading this I wrote this short story in 2023

There was once a chair that sat outside my house. Nobody knows how long it’s been there. Some people say it’s been there for 100 years. Others say 1000. Nobody really knows. One thing everyone knows is that it’s always been there. I’ve always noticed that the chair would look a certain way at a certain season of the year.

In summer, when it was really hot it looked like it was actually sweating. I could see the beads of sweat pouring down its seat. It even turned red where someone’s cheeks would be.

In winter, it would shake slightly as though it was actually cold. Some people may think that the wind is making it shake but it shakes when there is no wind.

In spring, flowers randomly pop out of it. They are not their one day and then they are just suddenly there the next.

In autumn, it seems to grow huge orange leaves out of its back that look a lot like wings. It's as though it's planning to fly off one day. Nobody seems to notice these things but me and if they are noticing it they don’t say anything.

When people come over to visit and they sit in that chair, it’s as though they become hypnotised as soon as they sit down. Everyone who sits on it stays there seated all the way until night and they always seem to be looking up at the stars with a faraway and distant look. By the time morning comes, they're gone. All that remains every time is blood but it disappears within a few seconds.

I sometimes sit there outside watching it. Even though it could be dangerous as something might happen to me, I’m worried that it might try to do something to me when I’m not looking or when I have my back to it.

As I came outside one time, I noticed that the chair had brown short hair. Brown eyes. The exact same brown hair and brown eyes that I have. I decided not to look at it that whole day but I kept giving it side eye every 2 mins to see if anything changed. Nothing did.

One night, I was standing outside waiting for my friend. We promised to revise together at my house for an exam we have.

I was a few metres away from the chair. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the chair turn to face me and smile with a cruel looking face that was identical to mine. I take a few steps back. Making the distance between me and the chair bigger.

Long green vines with daffodils all over started to come out of the chair. They were coming towards me. I tried to run but my legs wouldn’t move. I was rooted to the spot.

Every second, the vines would come closer and I started to scream whilst trying to force my legs to move but they refused to obey.

3 inches away. I pulled at my legs but they didn’t budge. 2 inches. I scream extra loud hoping someone will hear me. 1 inch. I pulled at my legs again but they still didn’t move. My whole body shook as the vines wrapped slowly around my body until it got to my neck and wrapped itself tight, making me fight for air.

The last thing I saw was myself being pulled into the chair. The next thing I knew, I was in a place that was pitch black with dead corpses all around me. That was the last time I saw the light of the day.
