The Forbidden Garden(Short Story)

The door to the garden opposite my house is covered in ivy. It’s black. Wide and has bits white hidden among the ivy.

I spend hours staring at it sometimes wondering what could be behind there.

I’m not allowed to go inside. For all I know it could be a whole other neighbourhood or something. I don’t know if it really is a garden.

I have just been told that it is a garden. My mum has told me so many times that there is a garden behind there but what if she is just saying that and what’s really behind there she doesn’t want to say?

My mum often goes to the shops sometimes and I always consider whether or not I should take this opportunity to just go through the door.

I never do. Something seems to hold me back. Maybe it’s fear?

One Saturday morning, my mum went to the shops and my friend Alisa who normally comes on Saturdays came over. We normally do revision together but this time me and her walked out of the house and we somehow found ourselves outside of the garden.

“Um Emma?” Says Alisa.

“Yeah?”

“Didn’t your Mum say you're not allowed to go through here?”

“Yes well you see my curiosity has been held in for too long.”

Alisa begins saying something else but I don’t hear. By the time she finishes talking I’m already inside of the garden.

I should have never come here. Alisa is suddenly by my side. Nothing she could say or do comforted me.

Behind the door, corpses surrounded me everywhere. Animals. Innocent animals of all sorts of species. Did my Mum do this?

“Emma?” I turn and I see my Mum standing there.

“I can explain.”

“What is there to explain?”

“You see when you were younger….”

“You did this, didn't you?” I interrupted.

“Yes but…”

“How many?” I ask.

“30 lives.”

My limbs do not feel like my own. I could feel every finger shaking. Every breath that came out. Every time my heart pumped blood around my body.

“You were kidnapped when you were young and the only way to get you back, the only way for you not to be kidnapped again was doing this. Emma I’m so sorry…..I …. Should have told you sooner.”

My mum continues talking but I’m no longer there with her. My feet are walking but I’m not sure where they are taking me.

Everytime I try to focus my vision it becomes blurred. My hearing and sense of smell stopped working a few seconds ago.

When my vision comes back to me I’m standing in front of my bed. For a moment I think of throwing myself onto there and never coming out of my room but then something cold, hard and painful comes into contact with my head and I drop to the floor.
