The Overcharged Fan(Short Story)

I plug my grey fan into the charger. It was 35 degrees all day. My fan died halfway through the school day. Nobody had a charger that would charge my fan and nobody had a USB charger either.

I had to survive half the day without my fan. I was hot but it was bearable.

I leave the living room where my fan is charging and I go upstairs to my room. I started to read a book but then I fell asleep.

When I woke up, it was 8:00pm. I came home from school at 3:00. We finished at 2:45. 25 mins earlier than we normally finish.

I have been sleeping for 4 hours or more. I suddenly remembered that I plugged my fan into the charger at 3:30. It would overheat. It only takes 1 or 2 hours to charge.

I practically ran down the stairs and I got to my fan seconds after coming down the stairs.

I took it out. The battery flashed 100% for a few seconds but then the digits changed to 130%. What? I shove the fan into my pocket thinking I imagined it and I go upstairs to my room.

That night, I lay awake in bed. I couldn’t sleep. I tap the screen on my phone to see the time. Instead of looking at my phone though I look at my fan which was beside my phone. The fan kept flashing. I picked it up and stared at the words flashing.

“Hello, Charge me.” It has never said that before.

I didn’t move. The words on it changed and as it changed it showed 3 dots. Three dots that you would see on a phone when someone is texting.

The next words that appeared was “If you don’t charge me I will make you wish you were never born.” Maybe now is the time to consider getting a new fan.

“Don’t get a new fan to replace me.”

Who ever said anything about replacing anyone? How did it even know what I was thinking?

“Who knows? Maybe it is a skill I have.”

Skill? Since when is reading someone’s mind a skill?

“Put me in the charger.”

“I put you in the charger already.” I whisper. “You will become overcharged. It could cause a fire.”

“I don’t care besides I’m already overcharged when you saw I was 130%. You didn’t imagine it.” It pauses. The words disappeared but then new words appeared. “If you don’t charge me I will place a chip inside of every family member you have. It will slowly destroy them from the inside.” No way am I taking orders from a fan. Besides, since when can a fan place chips in an actual person?

“Since now.”

Every word that was on the fan disappeared. For several minutes there was nothing written on it. After 10 mins, the words “Currently placing chips in every family member.” formed on the fan.
