The pictures(short story)

My mum presses the button on her camera to take a picture of me and my siblings. It’s the last day of school and she refused to let us go without taking one.

“Here is your phone back.” Mum hands me my phone. Her phone died so she had to use mine instead. “Don’t forget to send it to me.”

I smile and nod.

During class, our teacher allowed people to take pictures as it’s our last day. None of my friends are in my form class so I used the opportunity to examine the picture from this morning.

My little sisters had locks of hair in their faces but it still looked cute because of how widely they smiled. My older brothers stood beside me smiling straight at the camera but then there was me. I had my usual natural smile on but there was someone standing beside me. Someone who was neither my brother nor my sister. They didn’t look like any family member I knew either.

I suddenly remembered the time when I took a picture with my friends and the same person appeared in the picture.

I edited them out though before I sent it to my friends.

A girl appeared beside me wearing a black leather jean jacket, blue jeans and a white shirt. Her hair was tied up into a bun with strands out of it sticking out.

“Hi lora. I’m Alisa.”

“I got to go.” I say. The bell rings all of a sudden dismissing everyone. I started walking towards the door but then Alisa stands in front of me and says “Your mum used to be a thief.”
