The Sunglasses(Short Story)

My Dad’s funeral happened on the 8th of February 2026. I wore his favourite sunglasses that day. He always told me to wear them at his funeral ever since I was young. I thought he was joking at first but over time I realised he was serious but I never wore his sunglasses again after that day.

For 2 reasons:

  1. It made me upset every time I put them on.
  2. My Dad’s initials kept randomly appearing on the sunglasses when they weren’t there before so I avoided it just in case something else happens.

My mum came into my room one day to ask if I wanted to keep any of Dad’s old stuff but I said no. She then said If that Includes the sunglasses and I was thinking of saying yes since of course I don’t really use them but I ended up keeping them in the end.

My mum did try to convince me not to keep them though since she really wanted them.

At one point she tried to take them without me knowing but decided against it because of something she saw on there but she never told me what.

I was looking for something on the same desk that the sunglasses are on one morning when I accidentally knocked them over.

When I bent down to pick them up words appeared there.

I thought I was seeing things at first. I mean how can sunglasses have words on them? They can't have words on them. Can they?

I read it at least a billion times and then actually believed that what I was seeing was real. I also stood there for a few moments going through all the possible reasons I shouldn't believe what I was seeing.

On the sunglasses lens it said the words “These once belonged to Miss Shells."

Who's Miss S....? My Mum once talked about Miss Shells. She said something about her doing something really bad but what?

I try to force my mind to remember what it was but I couldn't. Every time I tried a foggy cloud appeared as though something was stopping me from finding out what she really said.

My Mum came into the room. "Co..."

"Who is Miss Shells?" I interrupted. If Mum was annoyed that I interrupted her she didn't show it.

"She um....she..." Mum takes a deep breath. "She's my sister and she tried to use newborn babies in a science experiment but her experiment got found out and she went to jail. She was murdered soon after."

"What are these Sunglasses?"

"They are sunglasses that were made from a newborn baby."

"How?"

"I don't know but be careful people say that any products that were made from my sister seemed to have made them sick and they died 2 weeks later."

My Mum walks out and when I put the sunglasses down a rash appears on my hand but it didn't look like a normal rash the spots were too big and red. I suddenly had a headache and felt achy all over.
