The Yellow coat(Short Story)
I fixed my hijab(headscarf) in the mirror as best as I could. It was 08:15. I had to be in school by 08:30. I have gotten a late detention for the past few months. I can’t get another one otherwise I will get into a lot of trouble.
When I made the final adjustments to my scarf, I grabbed my phone and shoved it into my pocket, not bothering to look at the lock screen once. I all of a sudden felt a piece of paper in my coat pocket.
This coat may be yellow and bright but it has never had a piece of paper that I don’t know about. When I took the paper out and read it as fast as I could, I had to read it again to make sure I was reading right. It said four simple words in calligraphy writing.
“ I’m watching you Alisa.”
How does this person or whoever wrote this know my name? Forgetting the fact that I could be late if I don’t leave now, I ask my parents and my siblings if they wrote this as some kind of joke to prank me. They all said no.
I kind of knew they didn’t do it because it didn’t look like any of their handwriting. My brother's handwriting is a mess and this is neat. My parents are too wonky and this is written in a perfectly straight line.
I immediately thought it was my friends. Although it couldn't have been. Yesterday I didn’t go to school because I was sick. The day before was Sunday. Obviously it was Saturday before that. On Friday there was no piece of paper in my pocket at all.
I look at the time. 08:21. NO! I ran out the door whilst shoving the piece of paper in my pocket. I will deal with it later.
Arriving at the school gates panting and heaving, I walk inside. It was 08:38 and my head of year Mr Johns gave me a disappointed look but he gave me the benefit of the doubt saying that if I can make it to form by 08:40 he won’t give me a detention.
As I run to form whilst ignoring every teacher who tells me not to run, cold hands wrap around my mouth and eyes and pull me backwards.
